The story in one page
A King decides to retire by splitting his realm into three, but makes the fatal error of demanding public declarations of love from his children. The two greedy sisters flatter him to secure their inheritance, while the youngest, refusing to play the game, is exiled. Stripped of his crown, his retinue, and his dignity, the former monarch finds that his elder children have no further use for him. He ends up wandering a freezing heath, accompanied only by a cynical Fool, while a parallel plot of sibling betrayal unfolds among the local nobility. Everything concludes in a brutal pile-up of corpses and the total collapse of the old order.
